The BBSHD produces 1000W continuous and up to 160Nm of torque — noticeably more than either the 750W UART or 750W CAN-BUS version of the BBS02B, which share the same 750W rating and lower peak torque regardless of communication protocol. Housing Strength
The BBSHD uses a heavier, more robust motor housing than the BBS02B — why it’s the preferred Bafang motor for fat tyre conversions, cargo bikes and any build where the motor regularly carries high sustained loads.

The BBS02B fits 68–73mm threaded bottom brackets. The BBSHD extends to 68–120mm — a critical advantage for fat tyre frames, many cargo bike frames and custom builds with wider-than-standard bottom bracket shells.

The BBSHD runs standard UART communication built into the motor controller. On the smaller BBS02B platform you get an actual choice: the 750W UART for straightforward, reliable control, or the 750W CAN-BUS for real-time bidirectional data and finer tuning.

Why Mid-Drive Outperforms Hub-Drive for High-Torque Applications
This motor drives the bicycle’s crank rather than the wheel hub — the defining advantage of any Bafang mid drive system. Drop to a lower gear on a steep climb and the motor’s effective torque at the wheel multiplies through the drivetrain, just as a human rider’s effort does. A 1000W mid-drive working through a low gear can out-torque a considerably higher-wattage hub motor with no gears to help it.

Is the BBSHD 1000W Legal to Ride on UK Roads?
To be road-legal in the UK, an electric bike must be limited to 250W continuous power and 15.5mph of assisted speed under the EAPC regulations. The BBSHD 1000W exceeds both limits, so — like any Bafang mid drive kit above 250W — it’s sold and intended for off-road and private-land use only, not public roads or cycle paths.
